I pushed my grocery cart up to the checkout and began a casual conversation with the cashier. It began with him asking me the question I always get asked at Trader Joes - "Did you find everything you need?" Then he asked me if I had exciting plans this weekend. We are about the same age and I chuckled. I then replied with, "exciting starts here getting groceries - not as exciting as twenty three was." We continue and the conversation follows with both of us reflecting on life at twenty three and how our children don't believe there was an us before now. I sometimes miss those days of being a bit more carefree and poorer me. Today how ever, I tell my friendly cashier - I"m grateful to be buying these groceries." I truly was. The sun was shining, the temperature was a bit warmer and I had tulips to help me remember spring is around the corner. Maybe Fridays just have a grateful looking ahead attitude. Weekend, here I am.

That’s a great attitude you displayed on a Friday afternoon. I picked up a few items this afternoon and the checkout line was long. I was trying to be positive and calm.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the positivity in this post! It is always nice to look backwards on memories, but still being happy for the present :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful peek into the ebb and flow of life. Did you know that people who enter into conversation with those around them live longer lives. It was an interesting research study. So, here's to long life!
ReplyDeleteLove these little conversations between people brought together via life’s circumstance. Aren’t we all a little nostalgic?
ReplyDeleteA Friday with no plans except buying groceries sounds perfect to me. I don't even have the energy to go out on a Friday! And often on a Saturday for that matter. :)
ReplyDeleteI am loving your tight snippets - you really draw into the scene. I could hear your conversation. Grateful is important - so much to be grateful for. I am grateful I am starting my weekend with your slice!
ReplyDeleteI love your moment... this is a perfect slice of sharing a moment in time that we stop and think and do big things in small moments. A grateful weekend sounds great to me!
ReplyDeleteI’m a middle-aged mom with a nine-year-old daughter. I laugh every time somebody asks me what my weekend plans are. They almost always are to be my daughters chauffeur. Yes I love it! I wouldn’t want it any other way. Life is good at this age!
ReplyDeleteA casual conversation leading to think back to what was and appreciating what is. Lovely slice.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean... Always that pull... present to past... and back again... grateful for groceries... I like that :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your post! While you were in the midst of doing what life asks of us, you found kindness and beauty.
ReplyDeleteFriday evening used to be my favorite part of the week (before I retired). The weekend stretches before you and who knows what might happen. How I wish we had a Trader Joe's to visit and pick up reminders of spring. Sigh . . .
ReplyDeleteYour post has me picturing light conversations and tulips. You’ve made me smile with this image.
ReplyDeleteLove that you captured one of those moments you don't necessarily rush home to tell your spouse but still impact your mood and your day.
ReplyDeleteLovely thought and conversation. AND, tulips are the promise of spring. There was something special about once being a poorer more carefree (maybe even a little care-less) person.
