My Day With The Panye {#bookaday}

My Day With The Panye by Tami Charles and illustrated by Sara Palacios introduced me to the country, customs, and culture of Haiti. I learned about the panye; a basket carried on the head. It's a skill taught early on and the character Fallon shows perserverance several times. She also models patience, wait time, and the skill of carrying the panye.  The author's note at the end of the book was critical in helping me understand more about the story and role the panye has in many cultures. The illustrations are done in gouache paints in warm tones and show more of the Haitian culture for readers to explore.

  A huge shoutout to Candlewick Press for sending along this Advanced Reader Copy.
