This is Different...{3 of 31 Slice of Life}

This is different.  She's always worn what she's sewn for 4H judging or out and about.  The prom dress doesn't fit this "model" the same as it fit her.  The prom dress needs flats on this "model" and not heels.  The prom dress fit the owner, designer a bit looser.  I don't know if I'm a fan of someone else wearing and modeling her clothes.

As I wrapped my head around this new experience I this journey is going to be different.  A fashion design major would have others wear things she's made.  It won't be her wearing her own designs.  We will come and watch others and wait for three little words - Designer A Robek.

Prologue - my daughter submitted her prom dress to a bridal fashion show near her college and it was accepted.  It's a resume builder and I think maybe a glimpse of what could be someday.  The bottom line is I get to spend two days with her and help her start a new journey.  I'll be able to say - remember when...

  1. How exciting -- do we get to see pictures? I loved the opening -- trying to figure out what was going on and the ending ...

  3. Being at were side and savoring these moments makes such lasting memories. Enjoy watching her as she continues to build on her successes. Our kids grow up so fast. We are blessed to be at their side as they do.

  4. Such an reflection of possession and ownership. When does something we create belong to someone else? Does it? How do you separate the designer and the dress? Do you? Still. What a great journey for you both

  5. How cool it that! I have some sewing background as my first degree was in fashion merchandising. I can't imagine creating something for someone else to wear and show! Congrats to Designer A. Robek!

  6. Mandy,
    What an exciting experience for both you and Designer, A. Robek! I think these words "We will come and watch others and wait for three little words - Designer A Robek." Lifts A. Robek's work to a new level as she is releasing her work out to the world, a dream to all creators, right?

  7. So exciting! My mom grew up in the 1930's and she always wanted to design clothes. Back then, her father saw no need for her to go to school after high school. It was her dream. She sewed clothes for me and my sisters but I am sure it was never what she dreamed of doing. I LOVE that she is doing this. Chase your dream!
