Slice of Life - What is childhood about?

I had returned to my room from being out in the morning and was trying to get things back on track and welcome our new student while getting math workshop going.  My mind was racing a bit when something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye.  My empty pocket chart wasn't empty.  I have intentions to use it for a math word wall but haven't quite gotten that going BUT there were two white sheets of paper on it?!  I think this is interesting, I didn't put anything up for the students.  I navigate myself closer to take a look and discover - their indoor recess play.  They are a creative group of students always engaged in stores, reading conferences, playing school, and now this.  I needed that moment to stop and smile and remember what childhood is about.

  2. That's so cute, and I love your reaction--appreciation for time gone by, for the liveliness of your students, and for their creative spirits. I love the way you see this as a time to stop and smile and remember childhood--to me, that is the true spirit that builds rapport.

  4. There's your math lesson...right in front of you! You've got a group of shoppers! And of course, there's no better way to teach that subject at all! ;)
