Moving Forward Scares Me {SOS: Magic in a Blog}

Today, as I listened to the governors guidance for school in the fall my mind kept thinking about education and the industrial revolution.  I can't shake the image of students in desks and rows.   I understand the need for human connection.  I understand the need for community.  I understand the need for face to face interactions.  We are still in a pandemic.  The status of the virus hasn't changed and risks of catching it haven't changed.  I don't have any answers.  I just worry the quality of education is at jeopardy with so many health parameters.  I have a whole list of I can't imagines flowing in my head as I"m sure other educators do too.  I pray these decisions won't cause harm and trauma to those directly involved.

  1. It's tough isn't it? I teach Kindergarten and can't imagine all that might be lost. I find some comfort in putting my brain, heart, and creativity to how I might change classroom rituals, structure, celebrations, life, in ways that can support and protect in this time of a still very present virus AND that might bring more joy, more learning, more connection than if I hadn't been forced to thing of them. Does that make sense? I hope so!

  2. I'm in the same place. I'm praying so much, and there is so much that is scary.

  3. The health, the quality of education, the human connection - so much to worry about and no clear solutions in sight and little personal control over all of it - this is tough to process. Where do you find your strength and joy right now? Currently in Estonia life is back to rather normal. We are aware that there might be a second wave in the fall. I am so hoping that the vaccines will be available soon.

  4. Mandy -- This is powerful in its brevity. There are so many unknowns, so many things that cause educators to be concerned and you capture it here. I'm glad you keep writing.

  5. I am a retired first grade teacher, nonetheless these concerns tug at my heart. I admire the resiliency of my colleagues, teacher friends and students so far. I stand by you in prayer. All there is to do is to take the next step as it comes.

  6. I join you in the "I can't imagines" that will face schools. I am fearful of returning and being with people.
