It's Monday! What are you reading? {#ITMWAYR}

I've been working on my reading this summer and learning about my own reading life more. I use to be a reader that read one book from front to back before going on to another book. I'm learning that I read for different purposes and that doesn't always work. I also have so much I want to read and how do I get it all done. This week I'm sharing books I'm in the process of reading.

Anorexia and Other Eating Disorders how to help your child eat well and be well by Eva Musby has been one I've been working on for a year. It's thick. It's filled with great information. It was recommended by a doctor we visit with so it's an important read. There is new information for me to learn and much of it carries over from other mental health books I've read on this journey. Probably the best thing this book does for me is confirm my thinking and reassures my mind. I've just found it overwhelming and last night I set a goal of ten pages a day this week and I will finish it! I'm putting it out here in the universe to help me be accountable.

How to Love the World - Poems of Gratitude and Hope by James Crews was a gift for my birthday. I've found reading  poetry right before bed helps settle my mind. This is a slow read with a poem or two a day.

The Power of Moments by Chip and Dan Heath was also a gift from Ruth Ayers at the Choice Literacy Writing Retreat. I loved the first chapter and needed to find a way, a time to continue. I love reading self inspiration books as part of my morning routines. I'm reading this one during my home strength training routines rest breaks and it's interesting how much I read in those little moments.

Thank you Jen at Teach Mentor Texts for co-hosting this event with Kellee and Ricki from Unleashing Readers.

  1. I am definitely one of those readers who has to finish a book before I start another one (with the exception of picture books, which I can read in the middle of longer novels), but I can see how letting yourself read a few things at the same time would be valuable! (My problem is that I always focus too much on one book and ignore the others!) How to Love the World and The Power of Moments both sound like comforting, inspiring reads! Thanks so much for the great post!

  2. Poetry also relaxes me. I don't often make the time to read, but it makes such a difference when I do. What a great idea to read a poem at night before you go to sleep!
